After more than three decades, David Mindel and Steve Scott—co-founders of Mindel Scott—have officially retired. It’s the end of an era for the company they built from the ground up, and the start of a new chapter for the team they’ve helped shape.
Since launching Mindel Scott in 1994, David and Steve have been at the heart of the firm’s growth into one of the region’s most respected names in civil engineering, land surveying, and site planning. Their leadership pushed us to think bigger, serve better, and stay grounded in our values—always putting clients, quality, and community first.
Steve, a civil engineering grad from the University of Louisville, brought a practical, no-nonsense approach to every job. His depth of experience in commercial and industrial design—and his knack for mentoring—made him a go-to for both clients and colleagues. Even after stepping down as president in 2021, he stayed involved to make sure the next generation of leaders had a smooth path forward.
David was just as key to our success. Known for his strategic thinking and attention to detail, he helped set the tone for how we work—collaborative, forward-thinking, and always focused on getting things right. Together, David and Steve built a culture that valued people and progress in equal measure.
The response to their retirement says it all. One message we received simply said, “These two are legends and will be missed in the design community. Good men.” Another said, “Congratulations to both for building an outstanding company. Even better leaving the company in great hands.”
While we’ll definitely miss seeing them in the office, the foundation they laid is strong—and we’re proud to keep building on it. As one of our team members put it: “David and Steve helped make us who we are today. And the best part is—we’re just getting started.”
Please join us in celebrating everything David and Steve have given to Mindel Scott, our clients, and our communities. We wish them both the very best in retirement.
