Utah Bumper Laws
Utah`s laws and regulations for trailers are listed below: The Utah Code (UC) governs the state`s traffic laws. It`s unclear whether Utah`s street laws allow for the installation of auxiliary lights in addition to headlights and taillights. Total length: 65 feet (including bumpers); Trailer length: 40 feet (including bumpers); Width: 102 inches (can exceed 102 inches if the excess is due to an accessory); Height: 14 feet. Stinger-ordered car transports are measured bumper-to-bumper and can have a front overhang of 4 feet or less and a rear overhang of 6 feet or less with a maximum vehicle length of 80 feet or less (without overhang). Utah laws do not specify whether windshields are mandatory or not. However, vehicles equipped with windscreens must be equipped with windscreen wipers. Bumpers are needed in Utah. All bumpers must be at least 4.5 inches high. It is illegal to attach lifting blocks to the front suspension of a vehicle driven in Utah. All suspension cylinders mounted at the rear of a vehicle shall consist of one piece. Every motor vehicle and combination of vehicles shall be equipped with a parking braking system capable of holding the vehicle or the whole of any category in which it is travelling on a snowy, icy or loose surface under all loading conditions. Camel units carrying Class 1 explosives or ammunition-related safety equipment, as determined by the Department of Defense, can be up to 75 feet long on highways, U.S. highways and reasonable access roads without the need for a permit.
Reasonable access means to the interstate or U.S. highway system. Every motor vehicle and combination of vehicles shall be equipped with a service braking system that stops the vehicle or combination within 40 feet of an initial speed of 20 mph on a flat, dry, smooth and hard surface. Tractor unit, unloaded box platform and trailer. A camel unit is considered a truck trailer configuration, whether loaded or unloaded. All vehicles driven in Utah are limited to a maximum width of 102 inches, a maximum height of 14 feet and a single vehicle length restriction of 45 feet. The chain or cable requirement does not apply to semi-trailers equipped with a coupling device consisting of a 5th wheel and a pivot or to a rod trailer.
Commercial Supply of Light and Medium Trailers Utah requires vehicles to be equipped with brakes that can stop the vehicle at speeds of 20 mph at less than 40 feet. A secondary mechanical parking brake is also required. The drawbar or other connection between two vehicles, one of which pulls or pulls the other on a road, shall not exceed 15 feet in length from one vehicle to another, measured from box to box or frame to frame, except in the case of a connection between two vehicles carrying masts; Pipes, machinery or structural materials that cannot be dismembered during transport on a bar trailer. This allows a maximum of three articulated vehicles, one unit and a complete warehouse. All tyres in the vehicle shall be safe and without bulges or visible cords. Utah requires a minimum tread depth of 1/16 inch. Tire grooves are not included in the code. Taillights, brake lights and license plate lights are required. Turn signals and 2 or more red reflectors are also required. A trailer larger than 80 inches must be equipped with clearance lights. All other combinations, including recreational vehicles, must match the light colors listed in the chat in the “APS Safety Inspection Manual” Rear tires must have the top 50% of the tire covered with mud flaps, fenders or body construction. The rear flaps shall aim directly at the tyre and be at least as wide as the tyre. Only Davis, Salt Lake and Weber counties currently require emissions testing in Utah.
