Kenya School of Law Course Outline
This is an eighteen-month course with twelve months of teaching and six months of student body. Courses include civil litigation, criminal procedure, estate and administration, legal drafting and writing, litigation, professional ethics and practice, legal practice management, transfer of ownership and commercial transactions. [2] The course is taught using a clinical approach where problems are discussed in simulations, role plays, seminars and mock trials. [3] The Kenya School of Law was founded in 1963 as a legal college for the training of lawyers. It was created by Gerald Davis, a barrister under the patronage of Lord Justice Denning. Many of the lecturers appointed by Gerald Davis later became judges in Britain. The level of education was very high. However, the establishment of law faculties in East African universities has led to a change in the educational offer at the Kenya School of Law. The Kenya School of Law (KSL) is the only bar school in Kenya. After obtaining a Bachelor of Laws from a recognized university, students attend the Kenya School of Law to prepare for admission to the Kenya Bar Association. Classes take place according to the schedule from Monday to Friday. Fixed meeting times must be respected.
These meetings are intended to be forums for discussion of such issues that can be given by instructors. Permanent staff moderate these sessions. Class lists and business lists are posted on school bulletin boards at the beginning of the school year.
